Sonny Amati Schmitt est né le 8 août 1995 à Thionville en Moselle. Dès sa naissance, il a été bercé par la musique, puisque son père n’est autre que Dorado Schmitt, une pointure du jazz manouche, dont la notoriété a largement dépassé les frontières de l’hexagone. Entre 6 et 7 ans, Amati s’initie au piano et au solfège. Mais héritage oblige, il est indéniablement attiré vers la guitare, à laquelle il s’initie dès l’age de 8 ans, sous oeil perçant d’un musicien hors pair, son père, qui le conseille et corrige ses défauts. Avec un tel professeur et bien du talent, les progrès sont très vite au rendez vous!

Sonny Amati fait sa première apparition sur scène à l’âge de 9 ans, au côté de son père. De suite, il montre une aisance naturelle, une présence, une facilité à communiquer via la musique avec le public et, au vu de son jeune âge, sa technique et sa maîtrise de la guitare sont excellentes. Mais Sonny Amati, en digne héritier de son père, n’en est pas à ses débuts et pour preuve: il s’est produit au côté du papa au grand festival de jazz à Vienne en 2010. Il a également joué aux festivals de jazz de Lyon, Monaco, Colmar, ainsi qu’au New Morning à Paris, etc… En automne 2010 et 2011 avec Dorado, il était au festival Django Reinhardt au Birdland Jazz club de New York et en automne 2013 il est à nouveau invité. Il a eu énormément de succès et en 2010, un invité surprise, Léonardo Di Caprio, et son père sont venus le féliciter en personne.

Sonny Amati Schmitt, one of the sons of Gipsy Jazz legend Dorado Schmitt, was born on 8 August 1995 in Thionville in Moselle. He started studying piano and solfeggio at the age of six, but at the age of eight, he couldn’t resist the attraction of the guitar, honoring his origins. His technical progress on the instrument was spectacular, thanks to the advices of his father and of course, his talent. At the age of nine, he joined his father on stage for the very first time.

By the time he was 15, his reputation had already spread way beyond national borders. As his father’s worthy heir, Amati already has some sound concert experience behind him. He appeared alongside Dorado in the Jazz in Vienne Festival in 2010 and for six days of the Django Reinhardt Festival he played at New York’s Birdland Club, where he was congratulated by Leonard Di Caprio, who’d gone there specially to hear him. Several of the well-known jazz strongholds have programmed him, e.g. the Festivals of Lyon, Monaco, and Colmar, not forgetting the New Morning in Paris.
