Opposite Box

Opposite Box is a genre-bending experimental rock band from Chattanooga, TN known for high energy live shows and a seamless blend of jazz, rock, funk, punk and prog – dubbed “belligerent jungle funk” – that is often compared to acts like Frank Zappa, Mr. Bungle and Parliament Funkadelic.

Opposite Box presents theatrical live performances with a funky-acid-pirate-circus atmosphere that can include dazzling light shows, over-the-rail and off-the-stage interaction from stage performers that involves the audience and a spectacular cast of characters that features belly dancers, fire eaters, hula hoop dancers, guest musicians and more.

Performing extensively across the eastern United States, Opposite Box has shared the stage with various national headliners, such as Mike Dillon, Fishbone, Nappy Roots, That Handsome Devil, The Protomen, Lionize, Pimps of Joytime and Downtown Brown, across several of the nation’s most respected venues, including 1904 Music Hall in Jacksonville, FL; The Delancey in New York City; Legendary Dobb’s in Philadelphia, PA; JJ’s Bohemia in Chattanooga, TN; The End in Nashville, TN and The Hot Spot in Waynesboro, VA.

_______________PRESS REVIEWS_______________

"From the moment these guys started their trombone-led parade in the crowd before the show, Opposite Box had the attention of all festival goers without question all the way up until they ended their set jamming in the crowd again sans electricity. There just simply isn’t an adequate genre to label them with, much less combining two or three! Expect big things in the future from this eclectic group. To put it simply, these guys define “party.” "- hypemusicfestivals.com

“Opposite Box, whose name is growing in the festival circuit, really packed the dance floor with their experimental sounds. These Chattanooga natives kept everyone engaged with eye candy and interaction with the crowd as everyone circled to watch the trombone jam sesh.” — Rhea Foote/DO615

"Following RJD2’s performance, the sousaphonist and trombonist of Opposite Box led the crowd from the Cumulus Stage to the Stratus Stage with a horn-ified version of “Hey Baby”. Opposite Box was our new find for this festival, and what a delightful find they were. Check out the tracks below for a taste of their sound, which seemingly aims to blend as many genres as possible into one coherent song: (link to music files)" -- Jack Smith/No Country For New Nashville

"Opposite Box is a crazy band of misfits from all types of backgrounds and styles coming from the land of Dolly Parton, and famous dead rockstars with posthumous amusement parks. They range between: Funk, Punk, Metal, Ska, Reggae, a bit of Rap, and about absolutely anything you can think of, usually multiple genres are noticeable even within individual songs. They manage to keep a level of sheer unrelenting humorous fun through out ... no matter what style they choose to attack at that moment." -- TXpunk.net (http://www.txpunk.net/5/post/2011/9/opposite-box-silly-infantile.html)

"They have layers of thrash, reggae, blues, punk, hard rock, and maybe even a few things we’ve never heard before. They really get the audience pumped with aggressive yet fun beats." -- Melanie Mumea/Road Rash Magazine

“The alt-rockers, whose influences are all over the place, are guaranteed to make you smile, if not shake your head.” – Enigma Magazine, Chattanooga, TN

"I haven’t heard a bad thing about these guys. They are fun and energetic, one would even say theatrical as much as musical. Staying involved with the audience, this band is the perfect party band. Pop-funk-alternative vibes allow the trombone and bass to work together in order to keep everyone in the room shakin’." -- Tara V./Chattanooga Pulse

"But yeah, you should check Opposite Box out if you haven't yet. They're one of the coolest things out of Tennessee." -- Idle and the Bear/idleandthebear.blogspot.com

"This southern six-piece ... has mashed the likes of metal riffing, jazz brass sections and manic vocals together to form a hearty goulash of sweat-soaked bad-assery the likes of which no one has seen in a while. Their first full-length, Silly and Infantile is the cure to the world’s Twilight ailments of tragedy and overtly emotional men." -- Cpt. Morgan/Mental-Pirate.blogspot.com and www.entertheshell.com

"Sorta like the girl that's in most guys past... you know the one that was on psychotropic drugs prescribed by her "doctor", you just never knew what you were going to get on any given day. Opposite Box is just that, from song to song, you may get metal mixed with funk, jazz lines mixed with beat boxing, punk with glam.... too much for my little brain to handle on one listen ... The bass and lead guitar lines are killer metal tinged screamers, the horns do nothing to take away from the power of the rhythm section and the vocals swing freely from funk to hard rock,to metal, kinda like old Mike Patton's vocals were in his prime." -- Michael Rys/www.punkglobe.com
