Party: Cinematters Screening: Waiting at the Door

Cinematters presents... Free screening of 'Waiting at the Door', upstairs at Passing Clouds Sunday 17th July.

We would like to invite you to the first ever screening of "Waiting at the Door," in London - a short 20min documentary filmed by Syrian-American brother and sister duo, Akram and Thawab Shibly. The short film follows the stories of several Syrian refugees in Jordan caught in a transient state, waiting to return home or waiting for an unknown future. We get to hear their personal stories and how they have empowered themselves to rise above their circumstances. They are more than just their labels, and this is not another refugee story of a mass of voiceless powerless people.

The film is a recipient of the 2016 SUNYWide Film Festival Grand Jury Prize. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with Thawab, the Creative Producer of the film who has worked in various refugee camps over the past few years. The discussion will be moderated by Anisa Goshi who has also been working with refugees in different countries.
