Party: Cbgrcc Annual General Meeting

Goats !

The date for this year’s Annual General Meeting will be the 20th July from 6:30pm at the Mayfair Lane Bar in West Perth. . Member attendance at the AGM is essential to elect the committee for the following season and to help set the direction of your club.

Normally a Presidents address or review is done at the clubs annual AGM (read on for date/time) however I wanted to reach out to those of you that might be thinking “I don’t need to attend” or “they will be fine without my view/vote/presence” and here are some of the reasons why….

On field performance last season was fantastic across all 3 grades and to win one flag in 7th grade was even better. As ever the vibe around the club was positive and the social family setting CBGRCC are famous for I felt was as strong as ever with new players being welcomed with open arms and quickly fitting in to teams.

The new committees focus next season will be to solidify our clubs presence at City Beach for the foreseeable future and to grow our player base . Now to achieve this there are a number of factors, Financial (sponsors/fee’s) and good will (players showing up for club events, patronising the facilities/bar and helping out around the club)
Currently the balance of the above is tilted with the cost of our residence at City Beach out weighing our ability to maintain sustainability/profit with the current interest from the members and we are seeing the same committed few stand up and shoulder the brunt of the work to keep your club going.

What the above is really saying is don’t just expect to keep turning up Saturday for a game of cricket and offer nothing else to the club and expect it still to be here in 1, 2 or 5 years’ time…..that just isn’t going to happen unless we reflect this financially and raise fees to compensate which I for one am dead against as I feel sport should be affordable and not a luxury item !

With probably all 3 sides being promoted this coming season we will be looking to NEW players, especially those <30 years of age as they will essentially be the clubs life blood, and I personally would like to see some of these players take a more interested role around the club, if not this year in the coming few as young new fresh ways to survive will be essential in today’s community club environment, and don’t think we are alone here, this is a common theme across WA as unlike our Eastern State cousins we don’t have the luxury of coat tailing off commercial proceedings linked to Pokie machines !!

As it stands, stepping down from Committee roles this year are myself as President, Ray Hart (Venue management) and Matt Mazzuchelli (committee member) whilst I have it on good authority the rest of the committee will be staying on with Wade Croome (currently Secretary) putting his hat in the ring for the Presidency. This being said, please understand that ALL positions are made vacant at the AGM and ANYONE, player or social member can nominate for a position. The only reason I am letting you know the current intentions of this committee is due to the lack of willingness for members to attend AGM’s as in the past these have become “shanghai” types of meetings where people have been guilted into positions rather than wanting them and this has put people off attending, so I hope by being open frank and honest it will bring more interest to attend and a greater buy in to how our club is run and can survive into the future.
