There couldn’t be a more appropriate singer in Australia to showcase the ultimate tribute to Joe Cocker than the soulful and passionate voice of Doug Parkinson. A multi award-winning artist of soul and rock and box office hit musicals, Parkinson’s spellbinding performances show he is a master interpreter of others’ songs. Likewise, Joe Cocker was one of the great rock interpreters. He remains most famous for what he did with other people’s songs – and he chose well.

He had hit records with songs from the Beatles, Ray Charles, Billy Preston, the Animals and Traffic among others, with his famous gritty vocals and soulful interpretations often surpassing the celebrated originals. Hitchcock Railway, Delta Lady, You Can Leave Your Hat On, She Came In Through The Bathroom Window, The Letter, You Are So Beautiful and Cry Me A River – these are just a few of the songs Doug Parkinson has included in his new show paying tribute to the Sheffield-born king of soul.
