Thomas de Visser Quartet – Hardbop aus den Niederlanden
The Thomas de Visser Quartet is an energetic and hard swinging band from The Hague. These musicians have gained a large amount of experience in the past few years. The striking personal sound of these musicians has already been heard on the great stages in The Netherlands and beyond. They performed on stages and festival like, among others, The North Sea Jazz Festival, The Hague Jazz Festival, International Jazz Festival Middelburg and the Bimhuis. Their repertoire is rooted in the hardbop tradition but they are also strongly inspired by the New York jazz scene of today. Sonny Rollins, Benny Carter, Woody Shaw, Duke Ellington, Philly Joe Jones, Bill Evans, Wes Montgomery and Roy Hargrove were some of the great musicians that have strongly influenced their playing. The guitar player, Richie Reichgelt and the alto player, Tom van der Zaal both studied in New York and finished their master degree in jazz music. Matheus Nicolaiewsky, with his unique technique of playing the bass, recently moved from Brazil to the Netherlands where he has grown into a respected musician. Thomas de Visser finished his Bachelor degree in jazz music at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. He is an appreciated bandleader and a highly recommended side man for various artists.
