Party: Sunday Brunch with Christopher Platt & Nick Arseneau at Jazz Bistro!

An accomplished rhythm and blues player at the age of sixteen, Chris’s teachers recognized his ability to mimic the sounds of those that came before him. It was the music of Clapton, Hendrix and Vaughan that resonated with Chris in his early years. Dedicated to honing his skills, Chris was busy writing songs and leading his band in high school, playing at Toronto clubs, including the El Mocambo. Following his passion, he attended post secondary school at Mohawk College where he graduated with an Applied Music Diploma. It was there that he developed an unstoppable passion for Jazz and a deep respect for his greatest influences–Lenny Breau, Ed Bickert, Jim Hall, Reg Schwager and his teacher for three years, Bob Shields. Chris was a top student, earning him honours and various awards. It was also in his final year that Chris was selected to be a part of the Jazz FM 91.1 Jazzology program. Airing on March 29th 2012, Chris was interviewed by Brad Barker for one hour, where his own recordings and some of his favourite classics were showcased. Chris wears many musical hats and blurs the line between genres. Whether playing Blues, Jazz, Motown or solo guitar, Chris brings his own charm that will surely allow you to get a taste of his earlier influences while still remaining true to the jazz idiom. In good form, Chris will be continuing his education and pursuit of jazz performance at the prestigious, University of Toronto.

Nick Arseneau is a young up-and-coming jazz bassist, currently finishing his final year of jazz studies at York University. As both a talented performer and a high-achieving student, Nick was awarded the Mary Alice Stuart scholarship through JazzFM91 this past summer, and also performs regularly throughout Southern Ontario in a wide variety of groups from jazz to classical to rock and folk. Around Toronto, he is developing a reputation amongst his peers and is frequently on call for gigs. He has had the opportunity to study with Jim Vivian, one of Canada’s top bassists, and has also studied with instrumentalists Kelly Jefferson and Lorne Lofsky.
